Make an entry

Record a voice note or type a few words. Tap Finish: Echo Chronicle transcribes when needed, creates a reflection when available, and saves the entry. Your original words stay on screen after saving. Use Start another check-in when you are ready.

Find, edit, and revisit entries

Search Your chronicle, narrow it by date, feeling, or theme, or choose Favorites. Open an entry to keep it as a favorite, copy it, or edit its title and original words. Changing original words clears the old reflection so it cannot describe an outdated version; use Add reflection when ready.

More options offers optional starting prompts. About & Privacy → Reading comfort lets you enlarge journal text. The iPhone app also follows the system text-size setting.

Find patterns

Open Your chronicle → Insights. The dated feelings overview and local pattern cards use your saved entries. Tap a source entry to read the words behind an observation. The optional weekly review uses the most recent seven days and needs entries on at least three distinct dates. Tap Reflect on my week to start, or Stop review to cancel while it is working. Patterns describe what you wrote; they are not a score or a diagnosis.

Recording or reflection did not finish

Keep the app open while it works. If transcription fails, the recording stays available to retry or export. If reflection fails, Finish saves your original words. You can also use More options → Save without AI. Online processing can be temporarily unavailable when the shared request allowance is reached.

Apple Intelligence and online processing

Apple Intelligence must be supported, enabled, and ready on your iPhone. Supported on-device speech is tried first for recordings. Echo Chronicle asks before using OpenAI fallback. Change that permission under About & Privacy. Optional online requests use our Supabase service and Apple installation verification. A supported Apple device and an internet connection are needed for this fallback. Writing and saving remain available if verification or online processing cannot finish.

Backup, export, and deletion

Each app installation has its own local journal. There is no account or automatic cloud sync. Open Storage & backup at the bottom of the page → Export backup to save a JSON file with your entries and reflections. Choose Save to Files in the share sheet. Export readable copy makes a text file you can read or print; use the JSON backup when you want to restore entries. Both exports include your whole journal, even while filters are active.

To move your journal, open Storage & backup → Restore backup on the destination device and choose that file. Restore adds missing entries and keeps existing entries with matching IDs. Older Echo Chronicle and Unspool exports are accepted too. Keep a recent export before replacing a device or removing the app.

Delete an individual entry from its expanded view or use Delete all under Manage entries. Exported files remain separate copies. Older signed-in installations attempt to copy existing online entries onto the device once; old cloud copies are not deleted automatically. Contact support if you need help recovering or deleting records from the retired account system.

When contacting support, include app version, device/iOS version, the action that failed, and any error wording. Please do not send private journal text or recordings unless specifically necessary and you choose to share them.

Move an older browser journal into the app

The web journal is being retired. Visit its original address in the same browser and profile where you wrote, and export a JSON backup when the export page appears. Then use Storage & backup → Restore backup in the app. Browser and app storage are separate; opening a different address or signing in does not move local entries. Do not clear website data before exporting.
